Here are some things to consider when upgrading to hydraulic brakes:
Brake fluid: Hydraulic brakes can use either mineral oil or DOT fluid. Mineral oil is more commonly used, but DOT fluid has a higher boiling point and can handle more heat. Hydraulic brake assemblies are only compatible with one type of oil. Only use the specific oil listed on the brake lever assembly. Currently, all Aventon bikes with hydraulic brakes use only mineral oil.
Caliper and brake pads: Upgraded brake assemblies may have more pistons in the caliper. Entry-level brakes usually have a 2-piston style, while upgraded brakes may have a 4-piston configuration. Various brake pad compounds are available for different riding applications.
Stopping power: Hydraulic brakes provide better stopping power than mechanical disc brakes, which are actuated by a cable. This is especially beneficial for electric bikes that carry more weight or reach higher speeds.
- 1. Charge your battery regularly to avoid fully draining your battery’s stored energy or voltage.
- 2. Use the right charger. Only use an Aventon branded and proper model charger (Be sure to place the charger brick on a flat, non-flammable surface like metal or concrete. The charger brick will conduct heat while charging.)
- 3. Avoid overcharging your ebike.
- 4. Avoid extreme temperatures. Store and charge the battery in a climate-controlled area, keeping it away from both extreme heat and cold.
- 5. Maintain the right level of charge. The battery should be stored at 75% charge to its health.
- 6. Avoid heavy loads. Do not exceed the bike’s recommended maximum capacity.
- 7. Keep your battery, terminal, & ports clean.

This bike opens up a lot of doors for my 9 yo daughter to ride around our neighborhood. Were in the bay area and have a lot of steep and unforgiving hills. this bike is perfect its still very much a bike, its not too heavy that its unmanagable and provides enough assist to get up any hill really but without resembling a motorcycle/moped whatsoever. For the money were stoked with this bike
The Solterra 2.5 is easy to assemble right out of the box! I mainly use the bike to commute to and from work; it has been a blast so far.
I am really happy with this bike. The pedal assist is an absolute win. I’m 5’11” and the large is perfect for me. I have added the suspension seat post and it works better than I expected it would. This aluminum frame feels really solid but it is rigid and I think the suspension post is well worth the upgrade. The bike arrived on time and was well protected in its exceptional shipping packaging. The supplied tools and instructions made assembly pretty easy. The arrows on the cable connections are very small so I had to break out the cheaters but everything snapped together cleanly and I was riding the bike within two hours of receiving it. So far I’m thrilled with my Soltera 2.5. Life is short, ride faster. 👍🏼
Fun bike, great city bike
The instructions need to be updated. The QR code takes you to the 2.0 which has a different set up than 2.5. But the bike is wonderful.
