A First Look At Aventure M: Mid-Drive Makes It's Move
July 9, 2025
In early 2024, Aventon broke ground in the performance category with the Ramblas E-MTB, which featured the Aventon A100 Mid-Drive Motor. With increased torque output, more range, lower maintenance, and an overall enhanced riding experience, we knew it was only a matter of time until this beast of a motor found itself mounted to another one of our frames. Aventon is now proud to announce the next evolution in our product line: Aventure M.
Aventure M is the perfect blend of rugged capability, performance, and technology to help you explore further than ever before. With a meticulously designed frame geometry, an 80mm suspension fork, and 4.0" tires, there's nowhere the Aventure M can't take you.
For years, the Aventure has been the partner of choice for off-road adventurers and backcountry explorers. As an elevated counterpart to the recently launched Aventure 3, the Aventure M offers the same rugged durability and all-terrain capabilities, while boasting the A100 mid-drive motor with 100Nm of torque and a full suite of tech features, making this bike the premium selection in our fat-tire ebike lineup.
Specs and New Features
Performance-oriented and value-attentive, Aventon’s product team spent a ton of time meticulously balancing improved ride performance, premium features, at an inviting price point. Coming in at $2899, this fat-tire ebike is busting at the seams (welds) with high-performing components, security features, and new tech.
The Basics
The Aventure M comes specced with 4” fat tires, the A100 mid-drive motor, SRAM DB4 hydraulic four-piston brakes, a Shimano CUES 10-speed drive train, and an 80mm suspension fork.
It is also equipped with an Aventon Control Unit (ACU) and all the smart features that come along with it, including an integrated lock, startup password, Ride Tune, 4G capability and GPS, and many more to be detailed below.
Rack and fenders are also included.
Aside from the A100 mid-drive motor, a standout feature on the Aventure M is Aventon’s new E-Shift/AutoShift system. The electronic shifting system utilizes an electric cable puller and electronic shifter, offering riders increased precision and consistency with every gear shift. Even more exciting is the AutoShift. As the first ebike in this category to deploy an electronic shifting system, Aventure M also features AutoShift to take the guesswork out of gear selection and frees you up to focus on the ride. By taking advantage of the torque, power, and cadence sensors built in the A100 mid-drive system, the ACU communicates with the electronic cable puller mounted on the drive side chainstay to find the right gear for any situation.
It’s also worth noting that this exciting new E-Shift and AutoShift capability is put to work using a Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain - a generous step up from the 8-speed Shimano Altus found on the Aventure 3. These extra gears are meant to allow the rider greater accessibility to tougher trails, and in conjunction with the A100 motor, provide a more versatile system to help riders conquer rough terrain and steep climbs. It’s important to note that the Aventon E-Shift system is still cable-actuated and not a proprietary derailleur system, making it much easier to replace or maintain either at home or your local shop!
Our technical developments are driven by the desire to simplify the ride, and Auto Mode was one step further with this line of thinking. Auto Mode breaks down the barriers between assist modes, providing dynamic power output based on the slope of the terrain being ridden.
Utilizing an inertial measurement unit (IMU) within the A100 mid-drive motor to detect slope, Auto Mode finds and provides the right amount of assist wherever you’re riding. This feature is the answer for constantly switching pedal assist levels throughout the ride, allowing riders to focus more on their adventure, and worry less about not getting enough power from the bike.
Aventure M’s handling capability comes with the confidence to tackle some tough terrain. Sometimes that terrain might include a sandy switchback or a steep hill. More often than not, it becomes necessary to stop and assess an obstacle, and one of the gauntlets of riding a bike off-road is the first few pedals after stopping halfway up a hill. Between trying to keep your balance, choosing the right line, and finding the right gear to get rolling, nothing beats a little push to get the momentum going.
Thankfully, Uphill Start Assist is there to help you grind up the climb, not grind your gears. This feature leverages the bikes’ ability to detect slope, and can automatically produce increased power and torque output during the first initial crank rotation, helping you get back on the bike and make it up every climb. Whether it’s a tight turn that requires a pause or the best photo opportunity is halfway up a hill, the Uphill Start Assist feature is there to make sure a break isn’t the turn-around point.
The A100 Mid-Drive
The workhorse on this bike is the Aventon A100 mid-drive ebike motor. Specced with 250W with 100Nm of torque, the A100 made its first impression on the ebike scene with the release of the Ramblas eMTB early last year. Hallmarked by its above-average power, rugged durability, and Ride-Tune adaptability, the A100 seeks to prove itself on the Aventure platform. Paired with a 733Wh battery, this bike is expected to have up to an 85 mile range on a single charge.
Class Capability
The Aventure M comes stock as a Class 1 bike. A majority of outdoor recreational areas tend to limit the ebikes they allow in their spaces to Class 1, and Aventure M abides. This means that the bike is delivered with a max speed of 20mph and no throttle. For those riders looking for some extra “oomph”, fear not: you are able to configure Aventure M as a Class 2 and even a Class 3 ebike. is unlockable to 28mph and, for the first time in Aventon’s lineup, throttle compatible as a mid-drive. Yes, that means the motor is pre-wired for a throttle, which is sold separately.
The transition between max speeds is available on the app under the “More Settings” selection.
ACU Features and Extras
Aventure M also includes all of the same security features found on all other ACU-equipped ebikes, including an integrated lock, startup password, unusual activity detection, onboard alarm system, and 4G/GPS tracking.
This ebike features the same 26”x4” fat tires as its hub-drive counterpart, as well as an 80mm suspension fork, SRAM DB4 4-piston hydraulic disk brakes, rack, and fenders.
Frame Geo and Ride
The new generation of Aventure was designed to uproot the fat tire ebike’s reputation of being unwieldy, sluggish, and heavy. This bike was designed to refute these accusations and facilitate confidence while venturing into the unknown. Fronted by Lead Industrial Designer Jonathan Kikawa, the project for a nimble fat tire bike began in studying high-performance off-road bikes and was complemented with an anthropometric study to optimize the frame and touchpoints.
In a recent interview with Kikawa (I turned around to yell questions to him across our office), he stated that his quest for a better-handling bike started with a stiffer downtube:
“To create a fat tire ebike with improved handling and ride characteristics, one of the focal points was combating flex in the frame under pressure or during sharp turns. The solution was ultimately pretty simple. We had already created the Ramblas E-MTB, which was designed to withstand the demands and stress of mountain biking. We decided to leverage the same technique, and even used the same downtube from Ramblas to use on the Aventure M, ensuring this bike is equally capable of handling any terrain you can throw at it.”
The Aventure M frame geometry is nearly identical to the Aventure 3, aside from the seat tube being 10m shorter on the regular size and 20m shorter on the large. In our recent coverage on Aventure 3, we did a more comprehensive writeup about how the frame geometry was completely redesigned with significant improvements to bike handling, frame stiffness, and sizing compatibility.
Aventure M boasts the same advancements in frame geometry to provide the best possible riding platform for all-terrain adventures.
The Bottom Line
The Aventure M was crafted to help conquer any terrain that may find itself in your path. A step up in tech, power, and capability, this fat-tire adventurer is the perfect companion on any expedition. Reach limitless exploration with the A100 mid-drive motor and let yourself get lost with AutoShift and Auto Mode.
