New Firmware Update: Sensor Switch, Cruise Control, and Hold Mode

July 21, 2025

Over-The-Air Updates have given us the opportunity to continuously upgrade your bike through the Aventon:MyRide app in the convenience of your own home. This capability was initially exercised through the launch of Boost Mode, and quickly followed by the Uphill Start Assist upgrade on the Ramblas eMTB.

Aventon is excited to announce more features coming your way. Available now, this new firmware update features three dynamic new features: Sensor Switch, Hold Mode, and Cruise Control.

Update Instructions

These updates are available on the Aventon:MyRide app. A window will appear after you've connected your bike prompting you to update your firmware. If you don't see this window, go to the "More Settings" option and scroll down to "Update Firmware".

All you have to do then is update your bike and you're good to go.

Sensor Switch

For Aventure 3, Abound LR/SR, Level 3, and Pace 4

Sensor Switch gives you the option to swap between what kind of Pedal Assist Sensor you want your bike to use. This means that the default Torque Sensor can be converted to a Cadence Sensor for all the speed at a fraction of the power output. For more information about the difference between Cadence and Torque sensors, and to find out which mode is right for your ride, check out our blog going in-depth on the differences here: Cadence vs. Torque. Switch sensors by holding the left (“<”) button until the Cadence icon appears above the pedal assist mode on the screen. Switch back to Torque by holding the same button until the icon disappears.

Hold Mode

For Aventure 3, Aventure M, Abound LR/SR, Level 3, and Pace 4

Hold Mode introduces a way to keep your bike from rolling back when you’re taking a breather from schlepping your bike up a hill. For up to 30 seconds at a time, Hold Mode keeps your bike from rolling back when being walked up any kind of slope. Activated by releasing the “-” button while in Walk Mode, Hold Mode is the solution for all sorts of hauling ascents.

Cruise Control

For Aventure 3, Abound LR/SR, and Pace 4

Cruise Control allows you to set your speed and cruise without the need for pedalling or using the throttle. Once Cruise Control is activated, the system locks in the current speed and keeps the motor output steady to maintain your speed. This feature is only available up to 20mph and can be disabled by either hitting the brakes if you have the cutoffs, turning off the pedal assist (ie. turning the assist mode to “OFF”), or reducing your speed below 5mph.

Cruise Control is a great option for those long open roads where you want to cruise and enjoy your time on the bike. Please note that Cruise Control is only available on Aventure 3, Abound LR/SR, and Pace 4.
